Consists of mono- and diglycerides of caprylic acid (C8) and capric acid (C10), the monoester fraction being predominant
Solubilizer of poorly-soluble APIs, intestinal permeation enhancer of poorly permeable drugs and oral bioavailability enhancer. Water insoluble surfactant used in lipid-based formulations Type I (oily solutions), Type II (SEDDS) and Type III (SMEDDS) formulations. Safety of use is inferred by precedence of use in approved pharmaceutical products.
