Gattefossé launches Vitamin E TPGS and unveils a preview of its upcoming Solid™ surfactant range

Gattefossé expands its pharmaceutical excipient portfolio in partnership with PMC Isochem with the launch of Vitamin E TPGS and the preview of a new Solid™ surfactant range. While Vitamin E TPGS is now commercially available, preview samples of the Solid™ range are being introduced to enable pharmaceutical companies to evaluate their performance in early-stage development projects. Together, these innovations support enhanced solubility, oral absorption and the development of convenient oral solid dosage forms.

We will showcase these innovations for the first time at CPHI Milan, taking place October 6-8, 2026, at booth 1D66.

Integrating Vitamin E TPGS in the portfolio

Gattefossé joins forces with PMC Isochem, a French complex chemistry expert and world leader manufacturer of pharma grade Vitamin E TPGS, to integrate this excipient into our pharmaceutical portfolio. This partnership combines PMC Isochem deep expertise in the manufacturing of complex chemical compounds with Gattefossé’s extensive knowledge of high-functional excipients and its global commercial network serving formulators worldwide.

Vitamin E TPGS expands our oral surfactant offering, complementing the well-established Gelucire® range and Labrasol® ALF, with a similar HLB value (around 17) and an intestinal permeation enhancement mechanism complementary to the Labrasol® ALF’s. Recognized for its unique multifunctionality, Vitamin E TPGS acts both as a solubilizer and a permeation enhancer, helping formulators address one of today’s key pharmaceutical challenges: improving the oral absorption of poorly water-soluble APIs. and its wide precedence of use in marketed drug products, Vitamin E TPGS opens the way for formulators looking to create innovative, high-value drugs for oral route.

With a strong history of use in marketed pharmaceutical products, Vitamin E TPGS has become a valuable tool for formulation scientists developing innovative oral drug delivery systems. Its versatility makes it suitable for a broad range of applications, from conventional formulations to advanced lipid-based drug delivery approaches aimed at maximizing therapeutic performance. The integration of Vitamin E TPGS further reinforces our commitment to providing pharmaceutical companies with complementary excipient solutions that support the development of more effective and patient-friendly medicines.

Alexandre GIL

"The addition of Vitamin E TPGS represents an important step in the expansion of our pharmaceutical portfolio. By combining this widely recognized excipient with our expertise in lipid-based formulation, we can offer formulators an even broader range of solutions to address bioavailability challenges and accelerate drug development, especially since the pipelines portfolio evolve more and more towards complex modalities such as peptides and PROTACs."

Alexandre Gil, Group Director Pharmaceuticals at Gattefossé

“With decades of experience, PMC Isochem has built strong expertise in the development and manufacture of complex molecules, particularly for pharmaceutical applications. We are also very proud to be the historical manufacturer of Vitamin E TPGS for pharmaceutical use. Through our partnership with Gattefossé, we are pleased to make this valuable asset more accessible to a broader pharmaceutical community, combining our expertise with Gattefossé’s formulation know-how to support the development of innovative solutions and address long-standing bioavailability challenges.”

Launching preview samples of a new range of solubilizers and permeation enhancers

As oral solid dosage forms remain the preferred choice for patients, formulators face increasing challenges in developing effective formulations for poorly soluble drug candidates. To address this need, we are extending our oral excipients portfolio with a new generation of solid surfactants designed specifically for bioavailability enhancement in tablets and hard capsules.

Building on the proven performance of our well-established surfactants, we introduce a solid form of Labrasol® ALF: LabraSolid™; and a solid form of Gelucire®: GSolid™, innovative powder grades developed from its existing oral lipid excipients. Complementing this new range, we are also developing in collaboration with PMC Isochem Vitamin E TPGSolid™, a solid form of Vitamin E TPGS, recently integrated into our portfolio through our partnership with PMC Isochem.

Provided in a free-flowing powder form, these new excipients are designed to facilitate the development and manufacturing of oral solid dosage forms, including tablets, capsules and sachets. Their surfactant properties support the solubilization and permeation enhancement of poorly water-soluble APIs, a challenge that continues to grow as a significant proportion of new drug candidates entering development exhibit limited aqueous solubility.

Preview samples of the Solid™ range are now available to allow pharmaceutical companies to evaluate their performance in early-stage development projects.

Elise Dauphin-Chanard

"With LabraSolid™ and GSolid™, we wanted to bring the benefits of our well-established surfactants into a format better suited to today's pharmaceutical development challenges. These new powder grades provide formulators with practical solutions to enhance the solubility and permeability of poorly water-soluble compounds while facilitating integration into oral solid dosage forms."
