Our corporate culture

Gattefossé group people

Gattefossé’ successive leaders have always been talented, curious, open-minded scientists, combining their expertise in plant extraction and lipid chemistry to create innovative products for the cosmetic and pharmacy industries. René-Maurice Gattefossé, Henri-Marcel Gattefossé, and Emile Mahler all strongly believed in the power of collaborative work and nurtured strong relationships with professional partners, academicians, and collaborators. Today, the company works at perpetuating this legacy and is proud of its rich corporate culture, influenced by the characters of its founders.

Gattefossé is a modestly sized company, so we know how the personal investment of each employee advances the success of the group as a whole. Our company’s growth relies on the coordinated daily efforts of all our staff around the world, who share a common vision for the future.

Learning and development at Gattefossé

Gattefossé invests in its employees to keep them at the forefront of their fields.

A quarter of Gattefossé’s staff works in research and development: our scientists focus on developing innovative products, formulations and technologies at our research and development facility in Saint-Priest, France. As sharing insight and ideas is best way to foster creativity, they are encouraged to pursue their studies and research, publish their findings, and participate in working groups and conferences.

To ensure a successful start, new employees take part in an orientation program. During their first months at the company, they get to meet colleagues in strategic positions and take part in in-house training sessions to become familiar with our company culture and best practices.

Gattefossé believes in the importance of sharing knowledge: we regularly welcome interns and build on the relationships formed with promising new talents by offering long-term contracts.
The company also sponsors doctoral students and runs contract research projects with various academic bodies around the world, including Denmark, Australia, USA, and France (e.g., INSERM, CNRS, and INRA).

Embracing our diversity

Gattefossé India people

The staff of our headquarters and 12 affiliates worldwide are of various nationalities, cultures, and backgrounds. Because Gattefossé believes this diversity is an asset, we value sharing and teaching each other. And we are convinced that growing together means learning from our colleagues. Regular meetings are venues at which our employees can share insights, strategic vision, and best practices.

It is our belief that local affiliates’ staff are better placed to recognize a right fit for the needs of their markets and customers. That’s why our HR recruitment campaigns are managed locally. Our hiring strategy also values the diversity and quality of local education programs.

A word from Jacques Moyrand, Gattefossé Chairman (from 1997 to 2021)

My priorities are clearly linked to further securing the future of Gattefossé by expanding to new locations, pursuing R&D efforts, and forging additional strategic alliances.

These goals are closely connected to my vision, summarized by the following tenets of our company’s family culture:

  • Rely on your employees, and make them happy to work every day: their commitment enhances quality and the reputation of our company.
  • Work for the future. Adopt a long-term vision, not one that satisfies the financial community’s expectations of immediate and excessive return on investment.
  • Establish trust with customers and suppliers: honesty and quality in business relationships are the basis for the lasting success of all parties.
  • Preserve our financial independence by applying Thomas Jefferson’s advice: “Never spend your money before you have it.
  • Build a strong reputation by taking care of your stakeholders, and help preserve our planet for the benefit of future generations.”

The Foundation’s purpose is to promote the scientific and clinical use of essential oils as a complementary therapeutic approach to health, primarily within hospital settings.
