plant biology aromatherapy and galenical science
The Gattefossé Foundation supports research projects in plant biology, aromatherapy and pharmaceutical science on topics of interest to the entire scientific community.
The Gattefossé Foundation intends to make scientific contributions to the exploration and protection of the plant world as a source of molecules useful for health and well-being.
Humans have evolved in symbiosis with plants that feed, care, seduce, dress and protect them. Only a small number of the vast biological diversity of plant species have actually been investigated. The Foundation seeks to encourage research into new substances of plant origin that may have applications for health or well-being.
Aromatherapy—a science based on aromatic essences of plants—has been at the heart of the Gattefossé business for decades. By supporting aromatherapy research and educational projects the Foundation pays tribute to one of its iconic founders René-Maurice Gattefossé, while reviving the tradition and continuing the work begun by René-Maurice with essential oils.
The Foundation's aim is based on a desire to set up links between traditional wisdom and scientific progress, while contributing to recognition for aromatherapy science.
In galenical science the Foundation will help improve scientific knowledge about excipients used in the making of medicines, through a better understanding of their biological effects and the physical and chemical properties that affect their implementation.
