Sustained release agents

Owing to their physico-chemical properties, lipids have the ability to form water insoluble matrices. From these matrices, the drug may be released by erosion, diffusion or by combination of both mechanisms depending on the choice of excipients.

The solvent free nature of the lipid based sustained release formulations, readily translates to environmentally friendly production processes.

Gattefossé offers a wide range of solid and semi-solid lipid excipients with unique properties that can facilitate preparation of simple and efficient sustained-release dosage forms.

Gattefossé has developed a specific expertise in formulation techniques used in developing lipid based sustained release matrices:

· direct compression
    · capsule filling
      · melt granulation

      · hot melt coating (Gattecoat® process)

      · spray cooling, melt extrusion, CO2 supercritical fluid, prilling….

Bibliographic references to support these processes are available upon request.
